In late September, a crowd of nearly 400 people gathered for the 15th Annual Wine Opener to benefit the Gateway Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Attendees of this premier wine tasting event sampled over 40 different domestic and international wines, nibbled on appetizers and bid on fabulous auction items – all while raising over $100,000 for the foundation.
Casey & Devoti, a St. Louis-based personal injury law firm, along with Partners Matt Casey and Matt Devoti have been dedicated supporters of the foundation for many years. The firm provides corporate sponsorship, while Partner Matt Devoti serves as ‘Co-Host’ of the event. Devoti’s law partner, Matt Casey along with several of their family and friends attend the event each year.
It was Devoti’s success ‘co-hosting’ the Wine Opener that led to an invitation to join the board of directors in 2013. For the past several years, the Wine Opener raised close to $75,000 annually for the foundation. This year, Matt took the reigns as foundation president and, with the help of his fellow board members, an amazing foundation staff and an army of dedicated volunteers, shattered previous years donations by raising over $100,000 for the foundation.
“Over the last few years, we had consistently raised about $75,000. This year, everyone stepped up to help us break through that plateau. I’m so thankful to our sponsors, donors, volunteers and attendees – who all helped push us over the $100,000 mark. We have a new goal for next year now and I’m eager to see our team work together to achieve it,” said Matt Devoti. “All money raised goes towards helping those with CF live longer, more productive lives.”
Cystic Fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive systems of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States.
